Silk Moth
Silk from egg to final product. My daughter and I raised around 600 silk moths last year. Here is a sequence. There are several ways to process the silk. We let the moths hatch, they do not feed and die a short time later. The cocoons were then soaked in a solution to dissolve the "glue" that sticks the cocoon together. The soaked cocoon is then stretched onto a frame. The dried silk is then spun to produce a rough silk thread. Kalynda then wove a silk scarf.
